Stamps from Italy

Our oldest Italian stamp is a 25 cent 1929 stamp of Victor Emmanual III (Scott 218).  Victor Emmanual III was the King of Italy fro 1900 to 1946, so there are a lot of stamps with his image.

Next we have two stamps of Hitler and Mussolini (Scott 413, 416) from 1941.

While Hitler plastered his face on all of Germany's stamps, Mussolini seems to be on just these two.

By 1942, we have a stamp for Rossini (Scott 425)
By 1945, they are back to stamps of historical figures.  Victor Emmanual III, again.  But our two stamps of Scott 445 clearly show the difference condition can make.

Another in this series is Julius Caesar (Scott 448A or 453).
and again, our two copies of Scott 448, Augustus Caesar, shows the difference condition can make.

Another set from 1945, Scott 473A, 474, and 460.

Part of this same set, we get Scott 472 and a larger version from 1946, Scott 477.

Also, in 1947, they issued Scott 488 which looks a lot like Scott 474, but in a different color and amount.

By 1948, a much more elaborate set of images, showing "Ten Days of Brescia" (Scott 504) and "Garibaldi in Rome fighting" (Scott 505).

which look to be images of old paintings.

In 1950, there was a series about working people. a potter (Scott 552), Weaving (Scott 554), Shipbuilding (Scott 556), Fisherman (Scott 557), Shepard and flock (Scott 562), Husking corn (Scott 566).

1953 brings stamps with the image of "Italia" (Scott 626, 628, 630, 632).  The 15 Lire stamp is Scott 679 from 1956.  The postmark seems to be for 13-3-35, but that can't be; maybe it's 65.

We have one airmail stamp from 1948 (Scott C123).

And one "stamp" that is apparently "Erinnofilo" -- not an actual postage stamp.
